How Credits Work

The mechanics of the three Credits sub-types, why they deduct in a specific order, and how to read your balance.


Why are Credits deducted in this order? Alphio uses three Credits sub-types, deducted in the order Limited-time → Monthly → Recharge. The order is designed to be in your favor:

  • Limited-time Credits — granted via promos / referrals / surveys, expire on a fixed date. Used first so they don't expire wasted.
  • Monthly Credits — refresh each billing cycle, lost if unused at cycle end. Used second so they're consumed before they'd otherwise reset.
  • Recharge Credits — bought via Custom Credits, never expire. Used last as your long-term reserve.

This ordering is automatic and not configurable — by design, you don't need to think about which bucket to spend from.

Why did Limited-time Credits expire? Limited-time Credits carry a fixed expiry date stamped at grant time:

  • Promotional Credits typically expire at the campaign end date.
  • Referral Credits typically expire some time after grant (specific window varies by campaign).
  • Survey reward Credits typically expire some time after grant.

The expiry date is visible on the Credits ledger at /account/usage for each grant. Expiry is not extendable — once expired, those Credits are gone. Since they're deducted first, in normal usage you spend them long before they'd expire.

Can I buy more Monthly Credits? Monthly Credits specifically refresh only on cycle renewal; you can't top them up mid-cycle. If you've burned through your Monthly Credits and need more before renewal, the practical paths are:

  • Buy Custom Credits (Recharge Credits) — these roll over indefinitely and become your extension buffer.
  • Upgrade your tier mid-cycle — depending on the upgrade flow, you may receive an immediate top-up of Monthly Credits at the new tier's level (the upgrade confirmation step shows the exact effect for your account).

The subscription page shows your tier's monthly allotment and the next renewal date.

Do unused Monthly Credits roll over? No. Monthly Credits do not roll over — unused Monthly Credits at the end of a billing cycle are forfeited when the next cycle's allotment lands. This is by design:

  • If you under-use, buy a smaller tier rather than letting Monthly Credits expire.
  • If you over-use, upgrade tier or buy Recharge Credits to extend your runway.

Recharge Credits (Custom Credits) are the only sub-type that rolls over without expiry.

How to check my Credits balance breakdown. Open /account/usage for the full picture. The Credits ledger shows:

  • Total balance at the top.
  • Breakdown by sub-type — Limited-time (with each grant's expiry date), Monthly (with next renewal date), and Recharge.
  • Recent transactions — what was spent, when, and on which action.

The breakdown is the most accurate view; the headline "balance" displayed elsewhere in the app is the sum of all three sub-types.
