Card Deposits

Troubleshooting and policy questions for paying Alphio with a debit / credit card.

My card was declined. Card declines are almost always on the issuing bank's side, not Alphio:

  • Bank fraud rules — issuing banks frequently block first-time crypto / fintech merchants. Call your bank and ask them to whitelist Alphio, then retry.
  • Region restriction — some issuers block cross-border digital purchases entirely.
  • Per-transaction limit — split the deposit into smaller amounts.
  • Card type — prepaid and certain virtual cards are not supported by the processor.
  • 3D Secure failure — the bank's challenge step (SMS / app push) wasn't completed.

The decline reason returned to Alphio is usually generic ("issuer declined") — your bank's app or statement carries the actual reason.

Card deposit succeeded but Credits not added. This is almost always a processor delay, not a lost transaction:

  • Typical settlement: 5 to 30 minutes.
  • During processor maintenance or peak load: up to a few hours.
  • If it hasn't appeared after 24 hours, contact support with:
    • The transaction ID / authorization code from your bank statement.
    • The exact amount and currency.
    • The card's last 4 digits.

We can trace from those details on the processor side. Do not retry the deposit while one is pending — that may result in a duplicate charge.

Which cards are accepted?

warning

Accepted card networks (Visa / Mastercard / Amex / others) and card types (debit / credit / virtual / prepaid) vary by region and by processor availability, and the list is still being finalized.

The order dialog only offers cards that are actually supported for your region and account. If a card type you'd expect to work isn't offered, it isn't supported in your region right now. Try a different card or an on-chain deposit instead.

Why am I charged in USD when my card is in another currency? Card deposits are processed in USD. Your bank converts at its own FX rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee.

  • The amount you see on the order is in USD.
  • Your bank's statement will show the local-currency equivalent plus any FX markup.
  • The FX rate and fee are between you and your bank — Alphio does not see or set them.

If FX cost matters, an on-chain USDC deposit avoids the bank's FX entirely.

The 3D Secure step keeps failing. 3D Secure is the bank's challenge layer (one-time code, app approval, etc.):

  • Make sure your bank's mobile app has push notifications enabled — many 3DS prompts arrive via push.
  • If you receive an SMS code, ensure the number on file with your bank is current.
  • Some banks require you to first opt in to 3DS for online merchants. Call them to enable.
  • If you complete the challenge but the deposit still fails, the bank may have declined for a separate reason — see the bank's app / statement for the actual decline message.

Daily / monthly deposit limits.

warning

Per-transaction, daily, and monthly card-deposit limits vary by:

  • Region.
  • Account tier (Free / Base / Pro / Elite).
  • KYC level on the account.
  • Processor-side risk evaluation per cardholder.

The deposit dialog shows your current effective limit before you confirm. If the dialog rejects an amount as out-of-range, the displayed range is authoritative. Higher limits may be available after completing a higher KYC level.
